State security has collapsed under Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba

Police officers have admonished the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to stop dismissing personnel at every slight mistake, saying that the agency if already suffering from lack of manpower,

This was contained in a memo sent by some concerned officers to News Band decrying the recent dismissals of some officers over various types of misdemeanours.

It could be recalled that News Band reported on July 29 that the Nigeria Police Force dismissed one Mr. Richard Gele.

Mr. Gele, a Police Inspector, was caught in a viral video dignifying and justifying extortion of members of the public and official corruption which trended from the 25th of July, 2022.

In another recent report, the Nigeria Police dismissed another officer who was caught in a video beating a man with a cutlass in the Ekori community of Cross River State.

The disgraced officer identified as Mr Liyomo Okoi with NPF Number 524503 was dismissed after facing an Orderly Room Trial in which he was said to have been found guilty of the offence. In yet another recent report, the Police leadership dismissed Corporal Opeyemi Kadiri with Force No. 509745, attached to Dolphin Divisional Headquarters, Lagos Police Command.

Corporal Kadiri was dismissed for gross misconduct, disobedience to lawful order, and assault on a member of the public captured in a viral video on August 3, 2022.

His disgraceful dismissal from service was contained in a statement issued by the Force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The dismissed officer who, enlisted into the Force on 6th December, 2016, was caught searching a commuter’s phone by the road side contrary to the directives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba.

Reacting, the concerned police officers expressed concern that the dismissals are three too many and prayed that it stop forthwith.

The undated memo reads:

“Police is suffering from lack of manpower, and the authority keep on dismissing at every slight mistake of her personnel in order to please the members of the public that can never appreciate any of their effort.

“Someone is on salary and he went out to collect bribe… now that the salary is taken from him, what will happened next?

“Now we are already fighting insecurity and we are still sending trained personnel to the outside world.

“I would have suggested that another punishment is considered and police authority should stop media trial and dismissal.

“I doubt if these actions would not come back to haunt the Nigeria Police authority.

“Soldiers killed and abducted policemen recently but Army authorities defended the actions of their men by claiming that police first shot at the soldier man.

“Imagine if it were to be police that did such a thing; by now all officers involved would have been in prison by now.

“Even if the origin of this job started with slavery, by now we suppose to have liberated our mindset from that sense of slavery, because UN herself has abolished slave trade many decades ago.

“Why are we still emotionally enslaving ourselves.

“It is as a result of this slavery mentality that makes us to be jubilating over the rumors of peanut payment by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“Because we believe that we are not entitled to a huge welfare package from the Government.

“That why any little increment on police payment, you will hear a lot of news about police as if the increment only affected police.

“We should at least love ourselves, and be our brother’s keeper.”
