Hamburg have reached an agreement with French club Nice over the transfer of Nigerian striker Terem Moffi, with the Bundesliga side now waiting for the Super Eagles forward to make a decision on personal terms.
The agreement between the two clubs represents a significant step towards completing Moffi’s move to Germany, although the transfer is not yet officially concluded. According to reports from L’Équipe cited by PUNCH, Hamburg and Nice have settled the terms of the transfer, but the financial details have not been made public.
Moffi, 27, is now expected to decide whether to accept Hamburg’s proposal. If the Nigerian agrees to the personal terms, he will be able to begin the next chapter of his career in the Bundesliga.
The development comes after months of uncertainty surrounding the striker’s future at Nice. Moffi has reportedly been keen to leave the French club this summer, while Nice are also looking for a permanent solution that would allow them to reshape their squad.
Moffi joined Nice from Lorient in January 2023, initially arriving on loan before completing a permanent transfer after making a strong impression during the second half of the campaign.
His first full season with Nice proved particularly productive. The Nigerian forward scored 11 Ligue 1 goals, finishing as the club’s leading scorer and establishing himself as an important figure in the team’s attack.
However, his relationship with the club subsequently became increasingly complicated.
One of the most difficult moments came in November 2025 following Nice’s defeat to Lorient. Moffi and several teammates were reportedly assaulted by sections of the club’s supporters after the loss, which was Nice’s sixth consecutive defeat in the league.
The incident contributed to an increasingly uncomfortable situation for the Nigerian international, eventually leading to his temporary departure from the club.
Moffi spent the second half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Portuguese giants Porto. The move gave him an opportunity to rebuild his confidence and compete for silverware in Portugal.
His spell at Porto ended with the club winning the Portuguese league title. However, Porto ultimately decided not to activate the €8 million clause required to make the transfer permanent, meaning Moffi returned to Nice at the end of the season.
The striker has since made his desire to leave Nice clear, while the French club have also been receptive to finding a new destination for him.
Hamburg have now emerged as the strongest candidate after reaching an agreement with Nice.
The German club’s interest could provide Moffi with an opportunity to revive his career in one of Europe’s major leagues. The Bundesliga is known for its fast and physically demanding style of football, characteristics that could suit the Nigerian striker’s powerful running, pace and ability to operate inside the penalty area.
However, personal terms could prove decisive.
Moffi is reportedly earning around €3.14 million per year, excluding bonuses, at Nice. A move to Hamburg could require the striker to accept a reduction in his current salary, making negotiations over his contract an important part of the final stages of the transfer.
Hamburg are not the only clubs monitoring the situation. Turkish Super Lig sides Samsunspor and Besiktas have also reportedly shown interest in the Nigerian forward.
Despite that competition, Hamburg currently appear to have the advantage because they have already reached an agreement with Nice.
For Moffi, the decision will be an important one. At 27, he remains at an age where regular first team football could be crucial to the next phase of his career, particularly with his international ambitions with Nigeria also in consideration.
A successful move to Hamburg could give him the platform to rediscover the scoring form that made him one of Ligue 1’s most dangerous forwards during his best period at Lorient and Nice.
Moffi’s career has already taken him through several countries and leagues. His development saw him establish himself as a professional striker before making his breakthrough in France, where his performances eventually earned him recognition at international level with the Super Eagles.
Hamburg will now hope the Nigerian gives the green light to the proposed move.
With the agreement between Nice and Hamburg already in place, the next major step rests with Moffi. Should he accept the German club’s personal terms, the transfer could soon be completed and the striker could begin preparations for a new Bundesliga challenge.
For Nice, his departure would bring an end to a complicated chapter. For Hamburg, it could represent the arrival of an experienced international striker capable of adding strength and attacking threat to their squad.
The coming days should determine whether Moffi chooses Germany as his next destination or considers one of the other opportunities reportedly available to him.
