A lone truck accident along the Nnobi–Agulu–Awka Road in Anambra State has claimed the lives of three people and left four others with serious injuries, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed.

The Anambra Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mrs Bridget Asekhauno, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday in Awka.

According to her, the crash occurred on Friday near St. Jude Catholic Church in Adazi-Ani and involved a Mercedes-Benz 608 commercial truck bearing registration number XB270NNL.

She explained that preliminary findings indicated the truck suffered a mechanical failure while in motion before catching fire. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which then rammed into a roadside barricade and overturned.

The impact, she said, left some of the occupants trapped inside as flames engulfed the vehicle.

“The crash involved seven male occupants. Three persons died, while four others sustained serious injuries,” she said.

Asekhauno stated that FRSC rescue teams responded promptly after receiving a distress call and immediately commenced emergency operations at the scene.

She said officers managed traffic by diverting vehicles to the opposite lane to ease congestion while arrangements were made to remove the burnt truck from the roadway.

The sector commander expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

She reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to providing swift emergency response services and strengthening road safety enforcement across Anambra State.

Asekhauno also advised motorists, especially commercial vehicle operators, to ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition before embarking on trips.

She further warned drivers against transporting flammable or hazardous materials in passenger compartments or under unsafe conditions, stressing that regular vehicle maintenance remains essential in preventing avoidable road crashes.

The FRSC commander reiterated the agency’s resolve to safeguard lives and property on the nation’s highways and urged residents of Anambra State to make road safety a collective responsibility.
