Three suspects arrested over recent killings in Benue State

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, announced the arrest of three individuals linked to recent killings.

The suspects, believed to be herdsmen, were apprehended by security forces during a coordinated operation across the state.

Governor Alia revealed the arrests during a press briefing on Wednesday as gathered by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM).

He explained that the arrests form part of a broader security crackdown aimed at addressing rising violence in the state.

Benue has experienced frequent clashes between farmers and herders, but recent attacks have escalated tensions across rural communities.

The violence has resulted in multiple deaths, with several homes destroyed and families displaced from their ancestral villages.

Governor Alia assured citizens that the government is determined to bring all perpetrators of violence to justice.

“We will not tolerate violence or attacks on innocent civilians,” he stated during the press conference.

He added that the state government is working closely with federal security agencies to strengthen peace and stability.

The arrested individuals are currently in custody and under investigation for their roles in the violent incidents.

Local sources report that at least a dozen people have been killed in recent attacks across Benue communities.

Injured victims are receiving treatment in various health centers, while relief efforts are ongoing for displaced families.

Some villages have reportedly been burned down, worsening the humanitarian situation in the affected areas.

The governor emphasized that security patrols are being intensified, especially in vulnerable and crisis-prone zones.

He urged citizens to remain calm and cooperate with authorities in identifying and reporting suspicious activities.

Governor Alia called for unity between state and federal stakeholders to effectively tackle the security challenges.

He highlighted the need for lasting solutions to the long-standing farmer-herder conflict in the region.

Human rights groups have also raised concerns, urging prompt action to prevent further bloodshed and displacement.

They called on government leaders to address root causes such as land disputes and open grazing practices.

Governor Alia reiterated that his administration would follow all leads to ensure accountability and restore peace.

He encouraged residents to trust the process and support efforts aimed at rebuilding safe communities.

The governor expressed hope that the recent arrests will mark a turning point in securing the state.
