ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to ensuring stable and reliable electricity supply across Nigeria, according to the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Aliyu.

The assurance comes amid ongoing concerns over power shortages and limited access to electricity in many parts of the country.

Abba Aliyu stated that the current administration is prioritising reforms and investments aimed at expanding electricity access, particularly in underserved and rural communities.

He explained that the government is implementing targeted strategies to improve power infrastructure and reduce the electricity gap affecting millions of Nigerians.

According to the REA boss, efforts are being intensified to deploy renewable energy solutions, including solar mini-grids and standalone systems, to communities that are not connected to the national grid.

He noted that such initiatives are critical to boosting economic activities, especially in rural areas where lack of power has hindered development.

The agency, he said, is working in collaboration with both local and international partners to accelerate electrification projects across the country.

Aliyu emphasized that the focus is not only on expanding access but also on ensuring sustainability and affordability of electricity for end users.

Nigeria has long struggled with inconsistent power supply despite having significant energy resources, with many households and businesses relying heavily on alternative sources such as generators.

Successive governments have introduced reforms in the power sector, including the privatization of electricity distribution and generation companies, but challenges persist.

The Tinubu administration has reiterated its intention to address structural issues in the sector, including transmission bottlenecks and inadequate generation capacity.

Analysts say improving electricity supply is essential for economic growth, industrialisation, and improved living standards.

They note that stable power would reduce operational costs for businesses and enhance productivity across various sectors.

Aliyu added that the REA is committed to delivering measurable impact through its programmes, with a focus on transparency and efficiency in project execution.

He also highlighted the importance of community engagement in ensuring the success and sustainability of electrification initiatives.

The development reflects broader efforts by the federal government to tackle longstanding challenges in Nigeria’s power sector and expand access to electricity nationwide.

Observers say sustained investment and policy consistency will be key to achieving long-term improvements in electricity supply.
