DDM News

A tragic incident has shaken Delta State University, Agbor, after a student was arrested for causing a fatal accident.
Diaspora digital media (DDM) reported that the incident involved a 100-level student, Precious Nosakaire, who accidentally killed a final-year nursing student, Awele Eluemunor, during a driving lesson.
The accident occurred on Tuesday in Agbor town, outside the university premises, leaving the student community in deep shock and mourning.
Nosakaire, who was learning to drive under her boyfriend’s supervision, lost control of the vehicle and struck two pedestrians.
The impact killed Eluemunor instantly, while another woman, a hairdresser, sustained severe injuries and is receiving treatment in a hospital.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the young student had been arrested after the incident.
He stated, “Yes, it is confirmed. She killed a nursing student, while another victim is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.”
He further revealed that the boyfriend, who was giving the student driving lessons, fled the scene and remains at large.
Eyewitnesses described the terrifying moment when the student lost control and the car veered off the road.
According to them, Nosakaire panicked and was unable to stop the vehicle before hitting the two pedestrians.
Eluemunor, the final-year student, was reportedly standing by the roadside when the car rammed into her, causing fatal injuries.
Her death has left students, lecturers, and friends in deep sorrow, as she was set to graduate in November.
Many students have taken to social media to express grief and demand justice for their late colleague.
A university official clarified that the incident occurred outside the school’s jurisdiction and was beyond the institution’s control.
He said, “We condole with the family, but the accident happened in Agbor town, outside the university’s authority.”
The identity of the boyfriend, who owned the vehicle, has not been disclosed, but police are working to apprehend him.
His role in the tragedy has raised concerns about unregulated driving lessons and the dangers of inexperienced drivers on public roads.
Many students have criticized the recklessness of allowing an untrained student to operate a vehicle without proper supervision.
A student leader lamented, “It’s heartbreaking that a final-year student lost her life due to someone’s negligence and carelessness.”
Another student emphasized the need for proper driving education and safety measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of unregulated driving lessons and the importance of responsible driving practices.
Authorities have urged students to ensure that driving lessons take place in controlled environments with trained professionals.
The police have also called on the boyfriend to surrender himself and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
The family of the late nursing student is demanding justice, while the university community struggles to accept the tragic loss.
Students are planning a candlelight procession in Eluemunor’s honor, celebrating her life and contributions to the university.
Nosakaire remains in police custody as legal proceedings begin to determine her level of responsibility in the accident.
With the boyfriend still on the run, security agencies are intensifying efforts to bring him to justice.
For now, the Delta State University student community mourns, hoping such a tragedy never happens again.
