Tragic incident claims lives of twin sisters and family in Chicago suburb
A 25-year-old twin sisters, Halema and Zahia Kassem, along with their 53-year-old mother Majeda and 24-year-old sister Hanan, lost their lives in their home in Tinley Park, a Chicago suburb.
The tragedy unfolded on Wednesday morning, and while police are currently interviewing the father, Maher Kassem, no charges have been filed as of now.
Halema Kassem, a pharmacy student, was known for her entrepreneurial spirit, running a henna business that she actively promoted on social media.
Zahia, a radiology student, was described by friends as ‘outspoken’ and ‘lighthearted.’
The family, reportedly devout Muslims and Palestinian activists, faced an unimaginable loss, leaving friends and community members in shock.
Zahia, who also went by Zee, had recently visited Mecca, emphasizing her commitment to her faith.
Their mother, Majeda, was described as a woman who devoted her life to ‘family and religion,’ according to a fundraising site dedicated to completing a mosque in Mali in the family’s memory.
Hanan, the 24-year-old sister, was pursuing a degree in speech pathology.
Friends remember her as a compassionate individual who always made others feel like they belonged.
Her supportive words and thoughtful nature left a lasting impact on those around her.
Details about Maher, the father who remains in custody, have not been made public.
Majeda, a ‘mother-of-six,’ leaves behind two sons who were fortunately unharmed in the tragic incident.
The police were alerted to the situation when Maher called on Sunday morning, initially reporting that his wife ‘had been shot.’
Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of the women.
The motive behind this devastating act remains unclear as the community mourns the loss of these vibrant young lives.
