The Head of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has announced the death of Nollywood actor and lecturer, Mr. Patrick Okoye, popularly known as “Energy.”
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Department, Dr. Nkemakonam Aniukwu, who expressed deep sadness over the development. According to the statement, Mr. Okoye died in the early hours of Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The department described the late actor and academic as a vibrant personality, an accomplished Nollywood figure, an exceptional teacher, and a dedicated mentor who contributed significantly to both the entertainment industry and academic community.
The statement noted that his death came as a painful shock to colleagues, students, friends, and members of the university community, adding that his passing has created a significant void that will be difficult to fill.
Dr. Aniukwu prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and asked God to grant comfort and strength to his family, loved ones, and the entire department during this difficult period.
Mr. Patrick Okoye, widely known as “Energy,” was recognised for his contributions to Nollywood as well as his commitment to training and mentoring young talents in theatre and film studies.
