Man wey jump desk to attack Nevada judge for courtroom don get sentence

One man wey dem capture for video as e dey attack one judge for Las Vegas courtroom afta e vault over her bench and desk don get sentenced to decades for prison.

Deobra Redden dey ordered on Tuesday to serve between 26 and 65 years for Nevada prison for di attack on Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus, KLAS-TV for news report.

Redden, 31, plead guilty but mentally ill for September to attempted murder and other charges, ending him trial shortly afta Holthus don testify say she fear for her life when Redden vault over her 4-foot-high (1.2-meter-high) bench and land on her.

Di attack happen January 3 as Holthus dey about to deliver Redden’s sentence for one separate felony battery case.

Di violent scene dey captured by courtroom video wey show di 62-year-old judge dey fall back from her seat against one wall as Redden fling himself over her bench and grab her hair, toppling one American flag onto dem.

Holthus suffer some injuries but she no dey hospitalized, courthouse officials talk.

Redden’s defense lawyer Carl Arnold don talk say him client no dey take him prescribed medication to control him diagnosed schizophrenia for di time of di attack.

Arnold talk for September when Redden enter him plea say e “reflects one delicate balance between accepting responsibility for one regrettable incident and recognizing di impact of Mr. Redden’s untreated mental illness at di time.”

Di Associated Press send one email Tuesday to one spokes pesin for Arnold to seek comment on Redden’s sentence.

Redden talk for court Tuesday say e no intend to kill Holthus, according to news report.

“I no dey make excuses for my actions, but I dey talk say I no be bad pesin and I sabi say I no intend to kill Mary Kay Holthus,” e talk.
