Nigerian gospel singer Victoria Orenze has sparked widespread reactions after expressing disappointment over what she described as the misuse of faith for personal gain by some ministers and church members.
The singer said she was deeply concerned about individuals who, according to her, use the name of God for profit rather than genuine service. Her comments quickly gained attention across social media platforms.
Orenze also criticised what she described as the selective approval of government performance, noting that some people only praise leadership when they are personally benefiting from it.
“Honestly, I am disappointed in some ministers, church goers, who just use the name of the Lord for profit!” she said.
She further questioned narratives around governance in Nigeria, stating that claims of a “working government” are often influenced by personal advantage rather than the wellbeing of the wider population.
“Which government is working? The Nigerian government, politicians, and leaders have failed Nigeria and Nigerians. Period,” she said.
Orenze added that those who claim to represent God while supporting injustice are acting out of selfish interest rather than true spiritual conviction.
She also warned against what she called “stomach Christianity,” urging believers to remain sincere in their faith and not be influenced by personal benefits.
“Those who don’t hear GOD but yet want to speak on HIS behalf! Whenever a few are benefiting from a government, they say the government is working, because they don’t care about the good of the majority of Nigerians; they only care about their pockets and stomachs!!!! GOD CANNOT BE MOCKED!” she added.
Her remarks have since stirred mixed reactions online, with many interpreting her statement as part of a broader conversation around faith, politics, and accountability in Nigeria.
