Actor and BBNaija star Teddy A has criticised the Oyo State government over what he described as its failure to ensure the safety of schoolchildren and teachers following a recent abduction in the state.
The attack, which reportedly occurred on May 15, led to the kidnapping of several students and school staff, who have now been in captivity for more than two weeks. The incident has continued to spark national outrage, with many Nigerians calling for urgent action from both state and federal authorities.
Teddy A weighed in on the situation, expressing concern over the handling of security in the state. He questioned the effectiveness of funds allocated for security purposes, suggesting that there is a disconnect between financial provisions and the safety of citizens.
The reality TV star, who appeared visibly disturbed by the development, raised questions about the use of security votes allocated to state governments.
According to him, Oyo State receives significant annual security funding, yet the level of protection provided to citizens remains inadequate.
He was quoted as saying that Oyo State reportedly receives about N12 billion annually as security vote from the federation, but still struggles to prevent attacks or secure its residents.
He further alleged that political interests may be influencing governance decisions, stating that attention should be focused on rescuing the kidnapped victims rather than political ambitions.
The incident has continued to draw reactions from Nigerians, including celebrities and public figures, all calling for immediate action to secure the release of the abducted students and teachers.
Citizens have urged both state and federal governments to intensify efforts in addressing the ongoing insecurity situation across the country.
