Wike accuses PDP governors of betrayal and sabotage

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has spoken about internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports, he accused Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, of betrayal and alleged that some PDP governors worked against the party’s success.
During a live media chat on Tuesday, March 12, 2025, Wike recalled his tenure as Rivers State governor.
He emphasized his efforts to protect the PDP from external attacks and sabotage by political opponents.
Wike alleged that the ruling party attempted to destabilize the PDP using former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff.
He claimed that he resisted those efforts and fought to keep the party united and strong.
“When I was governor, I saw the ruling party using Ali Modu Sheriff to fight and destroy the PDP,” he said.
“I stood my ground, ensuring the party’s survival despite the challenges and political pressure,” he added.
Wike insisted that he never sought favors from the ruling party or visited the Presidential Villa.
When asked about former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s claim, Wike refused to comment directly.
“That is El-Rufai’s view. Do I look like someone who does things out of the public eye?” he asked.
Wike expressed doubts about the PDP’s readiness for the next general elections in Nigeria.
He blamed some governors for working against the party’s interests and causing internal divisions.
“Every governor is working against the party. Let them challenge me, and I will expose them one by one,” he declared.
He particularly accused Bala Mohammed of deceiving the G5 governors during political negotiations in 2023.
Wike claimed Bala Mohammed initially sought their support against Atiku Abubakar due to personal political fears.
“He told me Atiku would destroy him if he won and that we must support Asiwaju,” Wike said.
He explained that the G5 governors visited Bala Mohammed in Bauchi, believing they were helping him.
Unknown to them, Bala Mohammed was using their support to reconcile with Atiku Abubakar.
“The next day, Tambuwal led a delegation to see Bala, and he abandoned us,” Wike revealed.
He emphasized that leadership requires integrity, character, and consistency in political decisions.
“Before you hold certain positions, you must have character. That’s why I always talk about character,” he stressed.
Addressing rumors about his political future, Wike denied any intention of leaving the PDP.
“If I decide to join APC, I will announce it. I don’t run from fights,” he insisted.
“I’m staying in PDP. The governors have money but are not spending it on the party,” he remarked.
Wike also criticized the Enugu State governor for failing to provide leadership in the South-East.
He pointed out the lack of a PDP governorship aspirant in Anambra as a sign of weak leadership.
“The Enugu governor wanted to be the leader of the South-East, yet PDP has no governorship candidate in Anambra,” he stated.
“You can’t claim to lead the zone when no one is contesting under your party,” he argued.
Wike dismissed concerns about his popularity and people’s opinions about him.
“I don’t care who likes me. What matters is whether people appreciate my work,” he said.
“The only person whose approval I need is my wife’s, and she already supports me,” he concluded.
