Some students at York University have raised concerns over the activities of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries on campus, following reports that members of the church have been approaching students as part of their religious outreach.

The concerns reportedly surfaced online after students alleged that the church’s presence around the university had become more noticeable, with members inviting students to attend their activities.

One student claimed that members of the group had been seen in matching outfits while preaching with microphones and speakers in and around the Student Centre.

The student acknowledged that religious groups have a place within university communities but questioned whether the scale and manner of the alleged outreach were in line with the institution’s rules on religious activities and engagement with students.

The development has sparked debate online, with reactions largely centred on the balance between freedom of religion and expression and the need to ensure that students are comfortable in shared university spaces.

Some commenters argued that religious organisations should be allowed to preach and invite people to their gatherings as long as they operate within university regulations and respect students who choose not to participate.

Others said universities should have clear boundaries around unsolicited religious recruitment, particularly in busy public areas where students may feel pressured or uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, some social media users have described Lord’s Chosen as a “cult.” However, that characterisation is an allegation and should not be treated as an established fact without credible evidence or an authoritative finding.

The students’ concerns also raise broader questions about how universities manage religious expression, proselytising and the use of public spaces on increasingly diverse campuses.

At the time of this report, there was no official response from York University or the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries addressing the specific allegations raised by students.

Further clarification from the university could help establish whether the reported activities were authorised and whether any campus regulations governing religious outreach were breached.
