Nigerian content creator Isbae U has explained why he chose to have a different kind of conversation with former President Olusegun Obasanjo rather than focus on political questions.
The content creator made the clarification while discussing his interview with the former Nigerian leader on his show, Curiosity Made Me Ask.
According to Isbae U, some people expected him to use the opportunity to ask Obasanjo questions about politics and governance. However, he explained that the purpose of his programme is to reveal a more personal and less familiar side of public figures.
“Some people expected me to ask former President Olusegun Obasanjo political questions. Well, ‘Curiosity Made Me Ask’ is about showing you another side of these celebrities you’ve never seen. I’m sure you guys haven’t seen Baba in these settings,” he said.
Isbae U’s comments highlight the concept behind his interview programme, which often places notable personalities in unconventional situations and focuses on aspects of their personalities that audiences may not normally see.
The appearance of Obasanjo, who served as Nigeria’s military head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as a democratically elected president from 1999 to 2007, attracted particular attention because of his political background.
Rather than presenting the former president solely through the lens of his political career, Isbae U said he wanted viewers to see a different side of him.
The interview generated conversations online, with some viewers discussing the contrast between Obasanjo’s long public career and the lighter, more informal setting presented by the content creator.
Isbae U’s explanation also reflects the broader evolution of celebrity interviews on digital platforms, where creators increasingly move beyond traditional questions about careers and public affairs to explore personalities, humour and unexpected experiences.
For the content creator, the aim of Curiosity Made Me Ask is not necessarily to replicate a conventional political interview but to present public figures in settings that allow audiences to see dimensions of them that may not be familiar to the public.
His comments have consequently offered viewers more context about the creative direction behind his decision to interview the former president in a non-political format.
