2 wives of LGA chairman in Jigawa abducted by gunmen

Two wives of the chairman of Kiyawa local government area of Jigawa State have been kidnapped by gunmen.

Mr Nasiru Ahmed Kiyawa, the local government chairman told BBC Hausa Service that the gunmen invaded his home after Isha’i prayer on Friday night, chasing away people outside before taking them away to an unknown destination.

He said, “They fired twice at my door before entering,” the chairman said. “From there, they took my two wives, they are still holding them hostage”.

Meanwhile, the spokesman of the command in Jigawa, DSP Lawan Adam Shiisu confirmed the incident, adding that they received an emergency call and immediately sent officers to the scene of the crime.

“Before the arrival of the police officers, the gunmen had already kidnapped the chairman’s wives and fled”.

Shiisu said the command had already dispatched officers to all the nooks and crannies of the area to rescue the victims.

However, he also appealed to members of the public to assist the police with any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the hoodlums.
