2027: Offot Ukwa Clan insists on Uyo State Constituency seat

The Offot Ukwa Clan 2027 Mandate Group has declared its intention to produce the next representative of Uyo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, citing the existing zoning and rotation formula as the basis for their demand.
The group, operating under the All Progressives Congress (APC), made its position known during a press briefing addressed by its Central Coordinator, Hon. Asuquo Ekpenyong, in Uyo.
Hon. Ekpenyong stated that the Offot Ukwa Clan, being the largest and most populous in Uyo Local Government Area (LGA), has waited for 12 years while other clans took their turns in the State Assembly.
According to him, the clan controls four and a half out of eleven wards and boasts over 50% of registered voters in the LGA.
“Based on the age-long zoning and rotation formula, 2027 is our turn. We have supported other clans; now it is only fair that Offot Ukwa produces the next Assembly member,” he declared.
The group strongly opposed any move by the current House of Assembly member to seek a second term, arguing that it would disrupt the zoning arrangement.
“The incumbent was a beneficiary of this same zoning formula and even fought against his predecessors’ second-term ambitions. It would be unjust for him to now seek to extend his tenure beyond the agreed rotation,” Ekpenyong stated.
He also dismissed the argument that allowing the incumbent a second term would enhance Uyo’s chances of producing a Principal Officer in the Assembly, citing past instances where first-term lawmakers became Speakers or Deputy Speakers.
The group appealed to key political leaders, including Governor Umo Eno, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Prince Enobong Uwah (APC Leader in Uyo LGA), to support their quest for fairness.
“We urge all men and women of goodwill in Uyo to stand with us in this struggle for equity. If the zoning formula is ever reviewed, Offot Ukwa must first complete its rightful turn.”
The group vowed to work towards ensuring that one of its own emerges as the next lawmaker for Uyo State Constituency, warning that any attempt to bypass the zoning arrangement could threaten peace in the area.
