Isaac Fayose has reacted to the outcome of the Osun State governorship election, alleging that 28 people lost their lives in connection with the election while calling for justice for the victims and support for their families.
Fayose made the remarks while commenting on the election outcome and what he described as the human cost of the political contest.
“The Osun election has come and gone, but 28 people were killed by APC because of this election, yet they still lost,” he said.
He described those who died as heroes for what he claimed was their support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, while urging people celebrating the election result not to forget the families who are now mourning.
“As we celebrate this victory, we must also remember those who lost their lives and the families who are currently mourning,” Fayose added.
Fayose further called for those allegedly responsible for the deaths to face justice, suggesting that a petition should be submitted to the International Criminal Court.
“We must demand justice for them by petitioning the International Criminal Court against those responsible,” he said.
He also announced a personal donation of ₦5 million to the affected families and appealed to the Osun State Government to provide additional assistance.
“I will be donating ₦5 million to the families, and I call on the state government to support them too,” Fayose stated.
His comments have added to the reactions surrounding the Osun election, with discussions increasingly focusing not only on the political outcome but also on allegations of violence during the electoral process.
However, the claim that 28 people were killed by APC members has not been independently verified from the information available, and responsibility for any deaths would require investigation and evidence.
Fayose’s call for justice has nevertheless drawn attention to the need for proper investigations into election-related violence and for affected families to receive appropriate support.
As political celebrations continue, the allegations have also renewed calls for accountability and peaceful participation in Nigeria’s electoral process.
