FG nominates Fayemi for CON award eight years after receiving it from Jonathan

The federal government has again nominated Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti, for the commander of the order of the Niger (CON) national award.

This comes eight years after the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan nominated Fayemi for the same award.

Although the governor reportedly did not attend the award ceremony held in 2014, he adds the ‘CON’ title in his official statements, hinting that he received the award.

Meanwhile, according to the list published on Saturday, five persons — Senate President Ahmad Lawan; Olukayode Ariwoola, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN); Tanko Muhammad, former CJN; Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO); and Amina J. Mohammed, deputy secretary-general of the United Nations — were nominated for the grand commander of the order of the Niger (GCON).

Those listed for the award of the commander of the order of the federal republic (CFR) are the late Abba Kyari, former chief of staff; the late Ibrahim Attahiru, former chief of army staff; Monica Dongban-Mensem, president of the court of appeal; Oladayo Amao, chief of air staff, among others.

Others nominated for the CON award include governor of Ondo; Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ebonyi; David Umahi, governor of Plateau;
Simon Lalong, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ttahiru Jega among others.

The awards will be presented by President Muhammadu Buhari on October 11, at an event scheduled to hold at the state house in Abuja.
