The Kano chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has put its planned state congress on hold, citing a surge in new members joining the party.
In a statement issued by the party’s social media director in the state, Adam Said Adam, the decision was attributed to the need to properly manage the growing number of entrants many of them high-profile figures.
State chairman, Husaini Isah Mai Riga, said the influx has changed the dynamics within the party, making it necessary to pause and reorganise.
According to him, the party wants to ensure that all new members are fully integrated and that the process leading to the election of executives is fair and well-structured.
He added that a new date for the congress will be announced once the party concludes internal consultations and logistical planning.
The move comes amid broader political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties adjusting to shifting alliances and an increasing number of defectors.
