The chairman of the United Progressives Party [UPP], Dr Chekwas Okorie has justified the N500,000.00 fee for Expression of Interest and N5,000,000.00 fee for Nomination Form in the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election.
Elombah.com had, earlier in the day, reported that UPP candidates for the Anambra State gubernatorial election coming up on November 18, 2017, are to pay N5.5 million.
The disclosure was made in the party’s official documents issued at the National Secretariat located in Wuye District, Abuja.
Responding to the report, the Ojeozi Ndigbo, Dr Okorie replied Elombah.com:
“APGA under my watch and UPP under my watch never exceeded #5m from the year 2003 to 2017.
“In 2015 the Nomination Fees of APGA, PDP and APC were N12m, N11m and N15m respectively.
“These and other Parties are yet to publish their time table for the Anambra Governorship Election.
“UPP will run costs to conduct a credible and transparent primary election. The Candidates have not complained.
“However, if issues are raised about our modest nomination fees, what about the cost of campaigning for the primary election and the huge cost of the Gubernatorial Election.
“We are going to confront formidable opponents including an incumbent Governor. The Governorship Election in Anambra State is not a tea party.”
