(DDM) – The Coordinator of the Obidient Movement in Kwara State, Comrade Ibraheem Alfa Abdulrasheed Gbagba, has called on Nigerian youths to seize the ongoing voter registration exercise as a decisive step toward shaping the nation’s future.
In a strongly worded message made available to DDM, Gbagba said the forthcoming presidential election represents a defining moment that will determine Nigeria’s trajectory for years.
He urged young Nigerians not to treat the process lightly but to act with purpose by obtaining their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is scheduled to commence another round of voter registration on Monday, August 18, 2025.
According to Gbagba, this opportunity must not be wasted, as no citizen can influence leadership decisions without a PVC.
He warned against procrastination and apathy, stressing that the failure of youths to register would only weaken their ability to influence change.
The Obidient Movement Coordinator further raised concerns about potential election manipulation, noting that certain parties may attempt to rig the process.
He said the only effective antidote is mass participation, stressing the need for Nigerians to “go merd’”—an acronym for “make election rigging difficult.”
“Every single vote counts,” he declared, warning that staying away from the process creates fertile ground for manipulation.
Gbagba also appealed to Nigerians at home and abroad to deploy social media as a strategic tool for voter mobilization.
He urged citizens to share information about registration, election dates, and the importance of voting across their networks.
According to him, civic participation must be made viral, and online activism should translate into real action at polling stations.
He called on youths to consider joining grassroots-driven organizations such as the Obidient Movement group, GMM, ADC Media Frontiers, and ADC Polling Units Support Group.
These groups, he explained, are working to promote accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The coordinator said their involvement could make a decisive difference in ensuring a credible election.
Drawing lessons from recent political events in other African countries, he cautioned Nigerians against complacency.
He stressed that citizens must take responsibility for their collective destiny, reminding them that progress and respect start with proactive engagement.
“The presidential election is not just about today,” he warned.
“It is about the future of our children and generations to come.”
As part of his call to action, Gbagba listed urgent steps: register for PVCs immediately, encourage others to do the same, join support groups, volunteer at polling units, and use both online and offline platforms to inspire participation.
He concluded by insisting that Nigeria’s future lies in the hands of its youths, adding that the time to rise and make their voices count is now.
