JUST IN: NMA hails Oborevwori’s healthcare investments across Delta State

(DDM) – The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Delta State has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what it described as significant and measurable progress in healthcare delivery across the state.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the commendation came during a courtesy visit by the NMA leadership to Government House, Asaba, led by the state chairman, Dr. Israel Adaigho.

Dr. Adaigho noted that Delta has witnessed unprecedented improvements under Oborevwori’s administration, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, medical training, and procurement of modern equipment.

He highlighted the renovation of more than 150 primary healthcare centres across different local government areas as one of the key interventions applauded by doctors.

The NMA also pointed to the establishment of new medical colleges in Ovrode, Ozoro, and Onicha-Uku as a bold step in expanding access to medical education and grooming future professionals.

According to the association, these investments will help address the shortage of qualified medical personnel, a challenge faced not only in Delta but across Nigeria.

The doctors further praised the state government for procuring advanced medical technologies, including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners and 4D ultrasound machines, which they described as “game changers” in diagnostic medicine.

Governor Oborevwori, while responding, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a healthcare system that reduces reliance on medical tourism and keeps patients within the state.

He confirmed that additional dialysis machines have been distributed to major hospitals across the three senatorial districts to improve access to kidney care.

The governor also announced funding support for residency training programmes, stressing that continuous professional development remains vital for keeping doctors up to global standards.

Oborevwori explained that these initiatives are part of a long-term plan to position Delta as a benchmark for quality healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

He pledged to recruit more manpower into the health sector, provide better welfare for medical workers, and expand infrastructure to meet the rising demand for healthcare services.

Observers say the NMA’s commendation is a boost to the governor, who has faced the dual challenge of improving health facilities while managing scarce resources amid economic pressures.

Public health analysts note that Delta State’s renewed investments in health could serve as a model for other states battling with dilapidated hospitals, lack of equipment, and the exodus of doctors abroad.

Community members have also acknowledged the positive changes, particularly in rural areas where access to healthcare had previously been limited.

With continued collaboration between the government and professional bodies like the NMA, stakeholders believe Delta could achieve a sustainable health system that rivals federal facilities.

The state government has urged residents to support the ongoing reforms, assuring that the healthcare transformation agenda will be sustained beyond the current administration.
