The Deeper Christian Life Ministry has strongly denied a viral report claiming its General Superintendent, Pastor William Kumuyi, accused the United States of attempting to steal Nigeria’s resources and denied Christian genocide in the country.
The disputed report, published by an online platform called Ibom Focus, sparked widespread outrage on X after alleging that Kumuyi made the statement during a Lagos press briefing.
In an official statement shared on Pastor Kumuyi’s verified X account on Monday, the ministry described the report as “entirely false” and malicious.
“The Deeper Christian Life Ministry #dclmhq condemns in the strongest terms the false news circulated by the faceless platform, ‘Ibomfocus,’” the statement read.
The ministry clarified that Pastor Kumuyi has not been in Nigeria recently and did not hold any press conferences in Lagos. “The story with the headline: ‘America is Trying to Steal our Natural Resources; There is No Christian Genocide in Nigeria, says Pastor Kumuyi’ is a total fabrication and figment of the imagination of its authors,” the church emphasized.
It added that the cleric has been away from Nigeria for an extended period, conducting programs in the Oceania region and the Far East, and remains focused solely on preaching the gospel.
The church issued a stern warning against spreading misinformation. “The Ministry warns all those bent on mischief by seeking to drag our General Superintendent into politics, or fabricating stories in his name, to desist. Any such activity in the future may attract action,” it said.
The clarification follows the recent threat by U.S. President Donald Trump of military intervention in Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians. On Saturday, Trump posted on Truth Social that the U.S. may “go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists” if the killings continue.
While some Nigerians welcomed Trump’s stance, others—including human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore—cautioned against supporting foreign military intervention, warning that U.S. actions have historically exacerbated instability.
Pastor Kumuyi’s ministry also reminded the public that the cleric has been occupied with the Global Crusade with Kumuyi, which recently held events in Fiji, the Solomon Islands, and Pakistan.
The Deeper Christian Life Ministry’s statement serves to correct misinformation and reaffirm that Pastor Kumuyi does not engage in political commentary, underscoring his focus on spiritual leadership and gospel preaching.
