(DDM) – The Delta State Police Command has announced the commencement of a full statewide clampdown on the unauthorised use of vehicle sirens, revolving lights, unregistered cars, and covered number plates across all parts of the state.

DDM gathered that the coordinated operation, which spans Warri, Asaba, Sapele, Ughelli, and other urban and rural communities, is part of intensified security and traffic enforcement measures mandated by the Police High Command.

The clampdown began on Friday, 28 November 2025, with officers deployed to major highways, inner roads, and transport corridors to identify and impound vehicles violating established regulations.

The Command said the operation is aimed at improving road safety, sanitising the transport system, and reducing criminal activities frequently associated with vehicles using illegal sirens and concealed registration plates.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, more than one hundred vehicles have already been impounded within the first phase of the enforcement.

He explained that criminals often exploit unauthorised vehicle modifications to evade security checks, disguise identities, or intimidate unsuspecting road users.

Edafe said the crackdown forms part of pre-emptive security measures ahead of the yuletide season, a period typically associated with increased movement, heightened traffic volume, and spikes in opportunistic crime.

He warned that any vehicle found with unauthorised sirens, flashing or strobe lights, covered, tampered, or obscured number plates, as well as cars without proper registration documents, would be immediately seized without negotiation.

The Command clarified that only emergency responders, authorised government officials, security vehicles, and legally approved individuals are permitted to use sirens or special lighting devices.

Motorists across Delta State were strongly urged to comply with traffic laws and ensure their vehicle documents, plates, and identification markings are up to date and visible.

The Police Command stressed that the enforcement exercise will be continuous, comprehensive, and uncompromising throughout the festive period and into the new year.

Officers have been directed to intensify stop-and-search operations, verify vehicle ownership, and ensure strict compliance with national and state-level traffic regulations.

Residents were also advised to report suspicious vehicles or drivers to the nearest police station, especially cases involving cars with hidden plates or flashing lights not linked to emergency duties.

Security analysts note that the proliferation of unauthorised sirens and tinted or unregistered vehicles has contributed to road disorder, intimidation of lawful motorists, and growing security risks statewide.

The Command reassured the public that the clampdown is not targeted at law-abiding citizens but is meant to restore order, deter criminals, and promote a safer transport environment for everyone.

SP Edafe emphasized that the Police High Command is fully committed to ensuring that the state remains safe, orderly, and free from the misuse of privileged vehicle modifications.

He urged all motorists to cooperate with enforcement officers and avoid confrontations, insisting that compliance remains the safest and easiest way to avoid impoundment.

For many residents, the crackdown is timely, particularly in a period when the influx of visitors and heightened economic activities often strain law enforcement.

The Delta State Police Command concluded by reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on violations and promising sustained operations until full compliance is achieved.
