OWERRI, IMO STATE — Socialite and businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has reportedly suffered a political setback after losing his bid to secure a House of Representatives ticket under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the celebrity businessman contested for the APC ticket to represent the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency ahead of preparations linked to the 2027 general elections.

The contest attracted attention because of Cubana Chief Priest’s growing involvement in political activities and his public support for the ruling party.

According to reports, he sought to emerge as the party’s candidate for the federal constituency seat but was unsuccessful during the party’s internal selection process.

The primary election was won by Canice More Nwachukwu, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives.

Nwachukwu is serving his second term and was able to maintain his position within the party structure during the contest.

Political observers say incumbents often enjoy advantages in party primaries because of existing political networks, grassroots structures, and relationships developed over time.

Cubana Chief Priest’s participation had generated public reactions due to his popularity beyond politics and his large social media following.

Many supporters had viewed his ambition as another example of celebrities becoming increasingly active in Nigeria’s political space.

Observers note that over recent years, entertainers, business personalities, and social media figures have shown growing interest in political participation and elective positions.

Before the primary contest, Cubana Chief Priest had openly demonstrated support for the present administration and activities connected with the APC.

He had also been appointed as Imo State director of the City Boy Movement, a youth-focused political support structure associated with the re-election movement of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Analysts believe that such appointments and political affiliations increased speculation about his long-term political ambitions.

Despite the defeat, political observers suggest that the outcome may not necessarily mark the end of his journey in politics.

They note that many political figures experience setbacks during their early attempts before eventually securing elective positions.

Attention now shifts to whether Cubana Chief Priest will continue building his political profile ahead of future electoral opportunities in Imo State and beyond.
