The Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State has appointed Chief Hon. Dr. Sochima Nwodi from Umunko community as the new Supervisor for Agriculture.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM), the appointment is being widely celebrated across the community as a well-deserved recognition for a man known for his deep grassroots connection to farming and rural development.

Chief Nwodi is not a stranger to the agricultural sector.

His background reflects a life of active involvement in farm-based labor, having handled hoes and cutlasses both in his youth and even in present times.

He is fondly described as a man of the soil someone who not only understands farming on a practical level but also respects the cultural significance of agriculture to the Igbo people.

His lifelong commitment to food production and rural development has earned him a strong reputation among farmers, traditional leaders, and local stakeholders.

His new role as Supervisor for Agriculture positions him as a key figure in the local government’s agenda to transform Igbo-Etiti into a major agricultural hub.

Known for its fertile land and farming heritage, Igbo-Etiti LGA has long relied on subsistence farming.

However, local authorities, under the leadership of the proactive chairman, Dr. Eric Odoh, are working hard to shift the focus toward commercial agriculture.

Dr. Odoh has been vocal about his belief that food security and agricultural development are central to sustainable growth in the region.

His famous philosophy, “food is life and more food is more life,” continues to resonate with the people and guide the administration’s priorities.

The appointment of Dr. Nwodi is in line with this vision.

Stakeholders believe that his experience and credibility will play a major role in expanding agricultural initiatives from small-scale subsistence to large-scale commercial production.

With his new responsibility, Chief Nwodi is expected to work closely with farming cooperatives, community leaders, and state agencies to improve crop yields, promote mechanized farming, and attract investment in agro-based industries.

The Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area is one of the 17 LGAs in Enugu State, with a predominantly agrarian population.

Towns and villages in the area are known for producing staple crops such as yam, cassava, maize, and vegetables.

Despite challenges related to access to markets and infrastructure, the region has shown great potential for agricultural expansion.

Dr. Sochima Nwodi’s appointment has been met with goodwill messages from various corners of the state.

Community groups, youth leaders, and fellow public officials have extended their congratulations, expressing confidence in his ability to serve diligently.

Many believe that under his supervision, Igbo-Etiti will witness a renewed agricultural transformation that could serve as a model for other local governments.

The appointment also reflects the local government’s broader strategy of placing experienced and grassroots-oriented leaders in sensitive development roles.

With Dr. Nwodi now part of the team, many are optimistic that Igbo-Etiti will not only feed itself but also become a supplier of food across Enugu State and beyond.

Congratulations continue to pour in for Chief Hon. Dr. Sochima Nwodi and his fellow appointees.

The hope is high, and the expectations even higher  that their collective service will uplift the agricultural backbone of Igbo-Etiti and usher in an era of prosperity.
