(Editorial) GTBank vs VDM: Evading accountability using police brutality

Diaspora Digital Media frowns at the shocking display of gross arrogance by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) against Citizen Vincent Otse aka VeryDarkMan.

It reeks of insanity and arrogance for a presumed corporate institution like Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) to resort to the use of the much-maligned police institution in Nigeria to hound dissenting voices.

Formost social media influencer VeryDarkMan, after repeated futile visits to the bank, resorted to social media to voice complaints over alleged unauthorized debits from his mother’s account.

Today, Friday, VDM was trailed in Abuja and whisked away by police officers like a non-living thing.

This heavy-handed tactic is a clear attempt to intimidate and muzzle critics, rather than addressing the salient questions raised by VeryDarkMan.

Instead of engaging with VeryDarkMan’s concerns and providing explanations for the suspicious transactions, GTBank chose to unleash the police on him.

This approach not only undermines trust in the bank but also raises serious questions about its commitment to customer satisfaction and transparency.

The incident is not an isolated one, as GTBank has been embroiled in similar controversy before. In April, Ariyo Ahmed Adewale accused the bank of orchestrating his arrest over alleged unauthorized transactions. The pattern of behavior suggests a bank that is more interested in protecting its ruined reputation than serving its customers.

GTBank’s actions are a slap in the face to Nigerians who expect better from their financial institutions.

The bank’s management needs to take a long, hard look at its customer service policies and ensure that it is transparent, accountable, and responsive to customer concerns.

To VeryDarkMan, we salute your courage in speaking out against GTBank’s alleged questionable practices.

To GTBank, we say this: stop using the police to silence critics and start addressing the concerns raised by your customers.

The days of corporate impunity must over, and it’s time to prioritize customer trust and satisfaction. Anything less is unacceptable.

DDM frowns at this development, and demands an immediate reversal.
