VIDEO: Outrage as Pro-Iran protest rocks Katsina

A group of youths in Katsina State have stirred national and international debate after staging a dramatic street protest in solidarity with Iran, while vocally denouncing U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The unexpected demonstration, which erupted amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, was first revealed in a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), where footage of the rally quickly captured public attention.

In the video, a large crowd of young demonstrators is seen marching through Katsina’s streets, chanting slogans in support of Iran’s government.

At the center of the procession was a massive banner, featuring a portrait of Iran’s Supreme Leader alongside a map of the country.

The same banner also carried striking imagery — the faces of Trump and Netanyahu had been visibly crossed out in red, symbolizing the protesters’ strong opposition to U.S. and Israeli policy in the Middle East.

“We stand with Iran and reject the oppression of Muslim nations,” one protester declared as the crowd moved through the streets.

The footage has triggered a flood of online reactions, with the post garnering thousands of comments, shares, and debates on Nigerian social media.

While some users applauded the protest as a bold show of political awareness and pan-Islamic solidarity, others sharply criticized it as misplaced outrage, especially amid Nigeria’s own security challenges.

“Marching for Iran while your own country battles insurgency and poverty — make it make sense,” one user wrote.

The protest comes as global tensions escalate following an increasingly bloody confrontation between Iran and Israel, with the United States widely viewed as backing Israel’s military operations.

The demonstrators in Katsina appear to be echoing that sentiment, positioning themselves firmly on Iran’s side of the divide.

While there has been no official response from local authorities or the federal government, security analysts say such demonstrations — though rare — reflect a growing ideological alignment with Middle Eastern politics among segments of Nigeria’s youth, particularly in the north.
