FCCPC vows justice against Qatar Airways consumer violations

Published

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) will soon arraign Qatar Airways CEO Temi Birdzell and top executives.

Shockingly, the airline stands accused of violating consumer protection laws, sparking nationwide outrage.

FCCPC vow to hold the defendants accountable for allegedly flouting the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018.

Justice James Omotosho will preside over the explosive case at Abuja’s Federal High Court.

Notably, Account Manager Stella Ihediwa, Country Manager Kennedy Chirchir, and Sales Manager Eva Ojeje also face charges.

Additionally, Qatar Airways itself is named as a defendant, intensifying scrutiny on the embattled airline.

Initially set for Tuesday, the hearing stalled due to shocking procedural lapses.

FCCPC lawyer Chizenum Nsitem revealed four defendants hadn’t received proper court notices.

Despite serving the airline, Nsitem urgently demanded an adjournment to ensure fairness.

Consequently, Justice Omotosho postponed the hearing to October 7, heightening suspense.

Court documents reveal damning allegations in case number FHC/ABJ/CR/200/2025.

Specifically, the FCCPC slammed the defendants with two explosive charges.

First, they allegedly ignored a lawful September 6, 2024 summons, violating Section 33(3) of the FCCPC Act.

This blatant disregard has fueled public anger.

Secondly, the executives stand accused of deliberately withholding crucial documents requested on September 18, 2024.

Alarmingly, this breaches Section 111 of the same Act. Even worse, a third charge alleges they trampled on consumer rights that same day.

If proven, these offenses carry severe penalties under Sections 124(1) and 155.

The FCCPC warns it will fiercely uphold consumer rights, signaling a no-tolerance stance.

Moreover, the October 7 hearing promises dramatic revelations as defendants finally answer the charges.

Observers eagerly await whether the airline will mount a robust defense or admit wrongdoing.

As tensions rise, all eyes remain glued to the courtroom. Will justice prevail for aggrieved consumers?

The unfolding drama could redefine corporate accountability in Nigeria. Stay tuned for explosive updates as this high-stakes legal battle unfolds.
