(DDM) — Eyes are among the most vital organs in the human body, yet many people neglect simple habits that could protect their vision for life.

Experts say daily routines and lifestyle changes can go a long way in preventing common eye conditions and preserving visual health into old age.

DDM reports that adopting healthy habits like proper nutrition, screen management, hydration, and protective measures may significantly reduce the risk of blindness and eye diseases.

According to health professionals, the first major step toward better eye health is a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients.

Vitamins A, C, and E, as well as minerals like zinc and selenium, help prevent conditions such as cataracts and macular degeneration.

Nutritionists recommend foods such as leafy green vegetables, carrots, sweet potatoes, citrus fruits, oily fish like salmon, and eggs for optimal eye care.

Another critical lifestyle adjustment is quitting smoking.

Medical studies have linked smoking to an increased risk of glaucoma, cataracts, and age-related vision loss.

DDM learned that tobacco use also impairs blood circulation to the optic nerve, worsening eye conditions over time.

In today’s digital world, excessive screen time has emerged as a major source of eye fatigue and strain.

Health experts advise applying the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

This technique helps reduce digital eye strain caused by phones, computers, and televisions.

Additional tips include using blue light filters, reducing screen brightness, and minimizing glare from surrounding lighting.

Proper hydration is also essential.

Doctors say dehydration can lead to dry, itchy, and irritated eyes, especially in hot climates.

Drinking six to eight glasses of water a day and consuming hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges can help maintain tear production and eye lubrication.

Another overlooked habit is blinking.

During screen-heavy tasks, people tend to blink less, leading to dryness and discomfort.

Consciously blinking more often refreshes the eyes and supports natural tear flow.

Protection from sunlight is equally important.

Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays increases the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts.

Wearing sunglasses that block 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays is recommended even on cloudy days.

Eye experts also advise regular visits to an optician or ophthalmologist.

Routine eye checkups can detect problems early, especially for individuals above the age of 40.

Undiagnosed conditions like glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy can progress silently without regular examinations.

In summary, DDM reports that safeguarding vision doesn’t require drastic changes.

Simple steps like eating eye-friendly foods, quitting smoking, resting from screens, staying hydrated, blinking regularly, wearing proper sunglasses, and attending eye exams can make a long-lasting impact.

Your eyes are yourwindow to the world, treat them with the care they deserve.
