Ariana Grande has officially entered a new musical era with the release of her latest single, “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” which serves as the lead track from her upcoming eighth studio album titled Petal.
The new single, released on Friday, May 29, marks Grande’s first non-soundtrack release since her 2025 track “Twilight Zone,” and is positioned as the second song on the forthcoming 12-track project.
On the emotionally driven record, which was co-produced by Grande alongside hitmakers Max Martin and ILYA, the Grammy-winning artist reflects on heartbreak, healing, and emotional release. In one of the standout lyrics, she sings: “I know that I will find my way from you like flowers from a tomb,” capturing the tone of transformation that defines the project.
Grande first announced Petal in April via Instagram, describing the album as a more fearless and expressive body of work compared to her previous releases. She hinted that the project would explore deeper emotional territory, stating that it comes from a creative space she previously felt “too shy or polite” to fully embrace.
According to reports, Petal will feature 12 tracks and is scheduled for official release on July 31 under her BabyDoll Music imprint in partnership with Republic Records.
Ahead of the single’s release, Grande teased fans with a cinematic preview of the music video. The clip shows actor Justin Long glancing into a rearview mirror before Grande’s eyes suddenly appear behind him, building suspense for what is expected to be a visually striking release. The full video is set to premiere on June 1.
Petal follows Grande’s critically and commercially successful 2024 album Eternal Sunshine, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced hits such as “Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends.” The album later returned to the top spot following its deluxe edition, Brighter Days Ahead.
With Petal, Ariana Grande appears set to continue her chart dominance while exploring a more emotionally raw and experimental sound.
