Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyoden, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Nigeria has died at the age of 74.
He passed away on Sunday following a brief illness.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM), the sad development was confirmed by Simon Bako Lalong, the immediate past Governor of Plateau State

Lalong, who paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased in Jos, described Tyoden as a dependable ally and intellectual giant.
He referred to Tyoden as a trusted deputy, a loyal friend, and an exemplary public servant.
According to Lalong, Prof. Tyoden brought wisdom, calmness, and deep insight to the administration they jointly ran from 2015 to 2023.
He said the late deputy governor was instrumental in maintaining political stability and fostering unity in Plateau State.
He added that Tyoden worked behind the scenes to ensure harmony within government structures and contributed significantly to policy decisions.
Lalong stated that Tyoden’s calm demeanor and academic depth were key assets during their years in power.
He described the deceased as a mentor who inspired many young leaders across the state.
