Award-winning Nigerian author has publicly accused Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital of medical negligence and an alleged cover-up following the death of her son, Nkanu Nnamdi.

In a series of emotional posts shared on Instagram, Adichie recounted what she described as a painful journey in her search for answers and accountability. According to her, her son suffered a hypoxic brain injury after being improperly sedated by an anesthesiologist, Dr. Titus Ogundare. She said the injury eventually led to his death.

Beyond the circumstances surrounding her son’s passing, Adichie accused the hospital of repeatedly failing to act transparently.

Among her allegations are claims that the hospital issued a death certificate that incorrectly listed meningitis as the cause of death, failed to provide her family with complete medical records, and used language she described as insensitive in legal correspondence.

She also accused the hospital of frustrating efforts to uncover the truth by delaying and attempting to obstruct a coroner’s inquest an inquiry she noted was initially requested by the hospital itself.

Opening up about the emotional toll of the ordeal, the author said the experience has made grieving even more difficult.

“I wake up every single morning with my heart racing,” she wrote. “The ultimate loneliness of grief is that only you truly know the depth of your despair. I long for the peace to mourn, but Euracare Hospital has robbed me even of that.”

Adichie further alleged that a senior figure connected to the hospital’s ownership attempted to discourage her from seeking justice. According to her, she was warned that pursuing legal action could result in damage to her public reputation  a message she interpreted as both manipulative and threatening.

Explaining her decision to speak publicly, Adichie stressed that a coroner’s inquest is not a lawsuit or a demand for compensation but a judicial process designed to establish the facts surrounding a death.

“An inquest is a public judicial inquiry aimed at uncovering the circumstances of a death,” she said.

The celebrated novelist said she decided to make the matter public because remaining silent would amount to enabling wrongdoing.

“I have decided to make this letter public because to keep silent about Euracare’s actions is to enable them,” she stated.

As of the time of filing this report, Euracare Multi-Specialist hospital had not publicly responded to the latest allegations.
