EKUIGBO, DELTA STATE — House of Representatives aspirant, Olotu Akpodiete, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency (U3) seat in the 2027 general elections.
The declaration took place during a meeting of U3 political leaders and stakeholders held at the country home of Chief Jabin Ighomena in Ekuigbo, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Addressing party leaders, supporters, and stakeholders at the gathering, Dr. Akpodiete said his decision to join the race was driven by the desire to provide inclusive, people-oriented, and impactful representation for the constituency.
The aspirant highlighted his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party during periods of political uncertainty and defections within the party.
According to him, he remained committed to the PDP while several politicians defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He noted that throughout the political challenges, he continued supporting party members and grassroots supporters through empowerment initiatives within his capacity.
Dr. Akpodiete appealed to leaders and stakeholders across the three local government areas to support his ambition and entrust him with the mandate to represent the constituency at the National Assembly.
Presenting key aspects of his proposed agenda, he promised to bring the dividends of democracy closer to the grassroots through accessible and responsive representation.
“My administration will be inclusive,” he told the gathering.
He assured that elders, youths, women, and community leaders across Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu would all have active participation in decision-making processes if elected.
According to him, the constituency deserves strong representation capable of attracting development projects, empowerment programmes, and improved federal presence.
The aspirant also urged party faithful to remain united and focus on supporting leadership that prioritises the welfare and aspirations of the people.
Political observers say the declaration marks an early sign of growing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections in Delta State.
Analysts note that the U3 federal constituency remains politically strategic within Delta politics due to its population size and influence in regional political alignments.
Stakeholders present at the event reportedly expressed support for party unity and grassroots engagement ahead of future electoral activities.

Chambers Sikogo, Elder John Awhin, and Chief Sunny Gbona.
Political stakeholders say the coming months are expected to witness intensified consultations and grassroots mobilisation as aspirants position themselves ahead of party primaries.
