EFCC Arrests Warri Archbishop for Alleged Naira Mutilation, Money Laundering

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the Benin Zonal Directorate have arrested Archbishop Angel Oyeghe, founder of Faith Healing Ministry, Warri, Delta State, over allegations of conspiracy, naira mutilation, and suspected money laundering.

Diaspora Digital Media gathered that the arrest followed the circulation of a viral video showing several individuals spraying naira notes on a live cow during a church programme allegedly organised under the cleric’s supervision.

The EFCC said the act violates Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of the nation’s currency.

The Commission, in a statement on Thursday, confirmed that Archbishop Oyeghe was taken into custody after operatives traced the incident to the church.

The EFCC added that other persons seen in the viral video are currently being trailed.

“The self-acclaimed Archbishop who is the founder of Faith Healing Ministry, Warri, Delta State, was arrested following a viral video where several individuals under her supervision were seen spraying naira notes on a live cow during a church programme,” the statement said.

“The Commission is on the trail of arresting other suspects as their action contravenes the provision of Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.”

The anti-graft agency also disclosed that Oyeghe had already made a statement to investigators and will be charged to court once the investigation is completed.

The EFCC has intensified enforcement of currency-abuse laws in recent months, leading to multiple arrests involving public figures, entertainers, and event organisers.
