Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Kaduna North Federal Constituency after winning the party’s primary election unopposed.
Announcing the outcome on Saturday, El-Rufai said he received 7,727 votes during the exercise, securing the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
The lawmaker, who recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the ADC, expressed gratitude to party leaders, delegates, stakeholders, and supporters for what he described as a strong vote of confidence.
“Alhamdulillah. I am deeply honoured and humbled to emerge unopposed as the flag bearer of the African Democratic Congress for Kaduna North Federal Constituency,” he said.
“I sincerely thank the leadership of the party, delegates, stakeholders, supporters, and the good people of Kaduna North for this overwhelming show of trust and confidence.”
El-Rufai said he remains committed to serving the constituency, noting that he has worked closely with his team over the past three years to represent the interests of the people.
The lawmaker also addressed questions surrounding his departure from the APC, insisting that he had never supported or funded opposition parties while he was a member of the ruling party.
“Let me explain this clearly. While I was in the APC, I never had dealings with the opposition, nor did I finance them. My father knew better than to ask me to do so,” he said.
He added that his move to the ADC was a matter of conviction and pledged to work for the success of his new party.
“There is still honour in politics, and I hope to embody it. I am now proudly in the ADC, and I can assure anyone who doubts it that I will campaign wholeheartedly for our party. My record speaks for itself. We fear no one.”
El-Rufai was first elected to represent Kaduna North Federal Constituency in 2023 on the platform of the APC.
