The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Emaimo, highlighted the university’s commitment to practical, hands-on education to prepare students for immediate integration into the national healthcare system.

He made these remarks during the university’s Founders’ Day Celebration held at the Enugu campus on Friday, February 14, 2025.

Prof. Emaimo revealed that pioneer students of FUAHSE will graduate with dual certifications—a bachelor’s degree in their chosen field and a diploma in entrepreneurship.

This initiative aims to empower graduates with additional skills, making them not only employable but also potential employers of labour.

He emphasized that the institution was established to equip students with practical knowledge while instilling self-respect, integrity, and strong moral values.

“As we commemorate our inception today, we are confident that tomorrow we will celebrate even greater achievements,” Emaimo stated.

“We will look back to appreciate how far we have come, but we will also continue to gaze forward with optimism.”

Transformation from dental college to university praised

The Traditional Ruler of the host community, HRH Igwe Julius Nnaji, commended the remarkable transformation of the institution from a dental college to a full-fledged university of allied health sciences.

He noted that the expansion of the institution will help address the growing demand for healthcare professionals in the region.

According to Igwe Nnaji, the establishment of FUAHSE aligns with the Enugu State Government’s vision to strengthen the health sector by producing a skilled workforce.

Students express confidence in university leadership

The President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Maurice Ugwuoti, described Prof. Emaimo as a role model and visionary leader.

According to Ugwuoti, the vice-chancellor prioritizes students’ success by ensuring academic excellence and infrastructural development.

“With a dedicated and exceptional staff, our institution is building a stellar reputation,” he said.

“We are the hope for medical tourism in Enugu State.”

The Founders’ Day event also featured keynote addresses and goodwill messages from prominent personalities in the health and education sectors.

Among the speakers were:

Prof. Emmanuel Iyidobi, medical director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu
