Woman laments after herdsmen carnage

Unknown gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Wednesday attacked Tambo, a village in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State killing 3 persons and injuring many others.

The attackers, who invaded the village at about 1 a.m. also carted away cattle and other domestic animals belonging to the community.

Some community leaders brought in the corpses of those killed to the Adamawa State Police Headquarters.

They lamented the lack of police presence in the area despite the security challenges witnessed in recent times.

Reacting, the Public Relations Officer, Adamawa State Police Command, DSP Othman Abubakar, described the incident as unfortunate, saying the attack is the handiwork of cattle rustlers.

He assured residents that the police is on top of the situation and will soon arrest the perpetrators.

The corpse of the 3 victims, which was brought to the police headquarters in Yola by the villagers, was later moved to the Specialist Hospital.

The Officer-in-Charge of Accident and Emergency Unit of the Hospital, Mr Kemiel Gilama, said the injured have been attended to.

The Christian community on the other hand described the attack as one too many.

It will be recalled that Thambo is one of the five villages attacked by herdsmen in January this year, where scores of people were killed and property worth millions destroyed.

Just last week, a clash in Koh, one of the villages in the area left 2 persons dead.
