Supporters of Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, flooded the Speaker’s Lodge on Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos, early Saturday morning, determined to give the former speaker a “heroic return.”

Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports that the group, wearing pro-Obasa vests and caps, gathered in a show of unwavering loyalty, despite Obasa’s recent removal from office by a majority of lawmakers in the House.

Obasa’s impeachment, which followed allegations of misconduct and abuse of office, sparked significant political turmoil.

The former Speaker was out of the country when the impeachment took place, adding further controversy to the proceedings.

Nevertheless, his supporters remain fervent in their belief that the decision to remove him was politically motivated, and they continue to rally behind him with hopes of his eventual reinstatement.

The supporters’ presence at the Speaker’s Lodge raised questions, as Obasa is no longer entitled to the residence following his impeachment.

“I didn’t expect that the lodge would be opened for them,” one local resident remarked, commenting on the inappropriateness of the gathering at the official residence.

However, the supporters remained undeterred, convinced that their demonstration would pave the way for Obasa’s return to political prominence.

Despite his absence, the supporters remained resolute in their commitment to Obasa’s cause.

According to sources close to the group, they had coordinated a grand welcome to showcase their loyalty and demand his political comeback.

Some supporters argued that the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, was not the legitimate leader of the Assembly and that Obasa’s ousting was an unfair power grab.

They viewed their demonstration as not just a support rally, but a direct challenge to the new leadership.

In light of the growing crowd, the authorities responded by deploying heavy security to the area.

Armed police officers and law enforcement personnel were positioned around the lodge to prevent any potential disturbances.

The security presence underscored the tension surrounding the event, with the authorities concerned about the possibility of clashes between Obasa’s supporters and his detractors.

Still, the supporters remained firm in their resolve, continuing to chant and hold their ground in the hopes that their actions would prompt Obasa’s return to power.

As the day progressed, Obasa’s supporters waited anxiously for their leader’s arrival, but he had yet to be seen at the lodge.

His absence only seemed to heighten the sense of suspense surrounding the situation.

Would he attempt to reclaim his position, or would he quietly retreat from the political scene?

The supporters clung to the hope that Obasa would return and prove that his political influence was not yet extinguished.

While the supporters made their presence known in Ikeja, the larger question looms over the future of Obasa’s political career.

Will this public display of loyalty result in his return, or will his political downfall be permanent?

The coming days will reveal the next chapter in this contentious saga, with Obasa’s supporters likely to continue their efforts, regardless of the obstacles in their way.

Whether they can bring him back into power or will have to reconcile with the new leadership remains to be seen.
