Controversial American rapper Kanye West is set to perform in the Netherlands this June, despite ongoing backlash over his past antisemitic remarks.
The 48-year-old music star, also known as Ye, has been granted permission to hold two concerts in Arnhem on June 6 and June 8, 2026. His final performance will coincide with his 49th birthday.
West previously faced widespread criticism and cancellations across several European venues after making a series of antisemitic comments, including statements that appeared to praise Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. His remarks sparked global outrage and led to multiple professional setbacks.
In response to the backlash, the rapper attributed his behavior to struggles with bipolar disorder and has since issued public apologies.
The decision to allow his performances in Arnhem was approved by the city’s mayor, who acknowledged the artist’s past comments, describing them as “reprehensible,” but stated that there were no sufficient legal grounds to deny him a permit.
The move has stirred political debate across the Netherlands. Several members of the Dutch House of Representatives had called for West to be barred from entering the country. However, the nation’s Asylum and Migration Minister maintained that there was no legal basis to prevent his entry.
Despite the controversy, the concerts are expected to go ahead as planned, reigniting discussions about free speech, accountability, and the separation of art from an artist’s personal views.
