The Kogi State Government has placed an indefinite ban on rallies and security convoys due to intelligence reports of security threats.

In a statement released on Monday in Lokoja, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, explained the reasons behind the decision as reported by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM)

He revealed that intelligence reports exposed a plot by certain individuals attempting to enter the state under false pretenses.

These individuals allegedly planned to use fake security personnel to incite violence and destabilize the state.

Fanwo stated that some elements intended to disguise themselves as rally organizers while deploying impostors in security uniforms.

“This decision follows intelligence reports exposing a deliberate scheme by some elements to pose as rally organizers,” he said.

He added that these impostors aimed to create unrest and put innocent citizens at risk.

It highlighted growing security challenges in Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette in Kogi West.

Additionally, a communal conflict in Enjema District, Ankpa Local Government Area, had raised security concerns.

Violent clashes over fishing activities had already resulted in two fatalities, according to government reports.

The government stressed the need for urgent measures to prevent further violence.

Authorities warned that security convoys entering Kogi must obtain clearance from relevant security agencies.
