An eyewitness explained that the fire incident, which happened shortly after 8pm on Sunday, damaged one courtroom before it was brought under control by the State Fire Service.

The Kwara State Fire Service (KWSFS) reported that the fire was caused by a power surge in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), where the High Court complex is located.

The items destroyed in the fire included a plasma television, a fan, documents, two air conditioners and furniture kept in the courtroom.

KWSFS verified that the fire outbreak affected only Courtroom No. 10 and added that the quick response of the fire service personnel helped to stop the fire from spreading to other courtrooms and offices in the premise.

In the statement by the representative of the State Fire Service, Mr. Hassan Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity, hailed men of the department.

Mr. Adekunle said: “The quick and active response of the fire service personnel prevented further damage that might have occurred during the incident.”

Speaking on the incident, KWSFS, he said further: “Upon getting to the location of the fire outbreak where there are many courtrooms and offices, fire had already gotten to courtroom No 10 and was already spreading to the other rooms.

“Despite the terrifying situation, the firemen immediately took action, and successfully saved the Ilorin High Court from great loss.
