Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has pushed his Deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, out of the Government House in Benin City and reallocated his office to an investment project he initiated, “Alaghodaro” as the secretariat.
This was revealed in a leaked memo dated September 18, 2023, wherein Governor Obaseki directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie, to allocate the deputy governor’s office building to the trustees of Alaghodaro summit as their Secretariat.
According to the leaked memo, Deputy Governor Shaibu’s office space closest to the venue of the summit, the New Festival Hall of Government House, should be allocated to the board of trustees of the Alaghodaro summit, expected to attract potential investors from different parts of Nigeria.
The development came contrary to Governor Obaseki’s claim of renovating the building which led to Shaibu being locked out of the office earlier in the week.
Earlier, the chairman of Alaghodaro had written to Obaseki for a permanent secretariat building to aid planning and logistics for the 2023 summit holding in the second week of November.
Consequently, Shaibu was pushed out of Government House and allocated new office at No. 7, Dennis Osadebey Avenue, GRA, Benin.
The Deputy Governor’s aides and civil servants attached to his office have moved to the new office about two weeks ago in line with the directive of Edo Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa.
Shaibu’s troubles seems to have started the day he expressed his determination to succeed Obaseki on November 12, 2024.
Recently, September 18, News Band reported that the running battle between Governor Obaseki and his deputy took a very disturbing dimension, as Shaibu was denied access to his office at the government House in Benin, the state capital.
Shaibu reportedly arrived at the government House on Monday morning but met the gate leading to his office locked, leaving him stranded. Read more.
