The lawmaker representing Kano South Senatorial District at the national assembly, Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, has officially defected from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The lawmaker made the announcement on his official Facebook page on Wednesday.

Senator Kawu said his decision was driven by an unshakable commitment to the welfare and aspirations of the people he represents.

While confirming his defection to the ruling party, the lawmaker said: “Yes, it is true. The reports regarding my defection are accurate. All politics is local, and my primary concern has always been, and remains, the welfare of my immediate constituency.”

The senator stressed that his decision was guided by the desire to improve the lives of his people and ensure their long-term prosperity.

“I am resolutely determined to advance the lives of my people, ensuring their needs are met and their future is secured,” he added.

Also, while details regarding his new political alignment are yet to be made public, Sumaila’s defection marks a significant development in Kano’s political landscape, where shifts in allegiance often signal deeper undercurrents within party structures and influence future electoral dynamics.

Recall that Sumaila had parted ways with the red cap movement Kwankwasiyya and the NNPP.

Sumaila, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum and Ali Madakin Gini were recently suspended by the Kwankwaso-led NNPP.

However, they rejected the suspension, saying they were not in the faction that announced the sanction.
