The Elders and Leaders Council of the Obidient Movement in Delta State has expressed strong confidence that Nigerians will rally behind the movement to take control of national leadership in 2027.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) revealed that the Obidient Movement, which gained national prominence during the 2023 general elections, is a political and social movement largely driven by Nigerian youths, professionals, and citizens disillusioned with the traditional political class.

It is rooted in the candidacy of Mr. Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party.

Although Obi did not win the election, his campaign inspired millions who sought a departure from the two dominant parties: the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking to journalists in Asaba at the weekend, Mr. Chris Biose, Chairman of the Elders and Leaders Council, addressed recent political developments in Delta State.

He reacted to the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other stakeholders from the PDP to the APC.

Biose insisted that the mass defections posed no threat to the Obidient Movement’s structure or growing influence in the state.

According to him, the politicians switching camps are disconnected from the electorate and have little hope  winning any credible election.

He emphasized that the grassroots support for the Obidient Movement remains strong and unshaken.

Biose noted that while the movement is largely youth-driven, elders have a crucial role to play when the community faces serious governance challenges.

He lamented the deplorable state of basic infrastructure in Delta State, particularly the lack of access to clean drinking water.

Biose pointed out that despite Delta’s wealth from oil revenue, many communities still suffer from polluted streams and environmental degradation.

He criticized the current and past leadership for failing to deliver basic social services to the people.

The Obidient Elders Council raised concerns over the security implications of handing over governance to the APC.

Biose warned that such political moves could expose Deltans to further insecurity and misgovernance.

He described the Obidient Movement as a diverse coalition of Nigerians from all backgrounds, united by a desire for justice, transparency, and good governance.

According to him, the movement stands firmly against corruption, religious bigotry, and human rights abuses.

Biose urged men and women of integrity within the APC and PDP who can no longer tolerate the misconduct within their parties to join the Obidient cause.

He appealed for a collective national effort to rescue Nigeria from its current political and economic challenges.

The Obidient Movement, since 2023, has expanded beyond party politics to become a symbol of hope for many Nigerians seeking a reformed nation.

The Elders Council emphasized that 2027 presents another historic opportunity to chart a new course for Nigeria.

They vowed to continue mobilizing and educating the electorate in preparation for the next general elections.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to upholding democratic principles, good governance, and accountability.
