OSOGBO, Osun State — Local government chairmen in Osun State have donated 60 patrol vehicles to security agencies as part of efforts to enhance security operations and combat crime across the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The donation, announced on Saturday, was made by the chairmen of the 30 local government areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state. The vehicles, which are fitted with communication and security equipment, have been distributed to the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to support patrols, intelligence gathering, and rapid response to security threats.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State chapter, said the gesture reflects the commitment of local government authorities to complement the efforts of security agencies in ensuring the safety of lives and property. He noted that insecurity remains a major challenge in the state, and the donation was a practical response to the need for improved security infrastructure.
The chairmen also pledged continued collaboration with security agencies and called on residents to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely information about suspicious activities. The initiative is expected to significantly improve the operational capacity of security personnel in the state, particularly in rural and remote areas where vehicular mobility is essential for effective patrols.
As the election approaches, the donation of patrol vehicles underscores the importance of local government involvement in security management and highlights the need for sustained partnerships between authorities and communities in addressing insecurity.
