Police recover engineer’s body from shallow grave in Delta after suspects admit to murder

The police in Delta State have exhumed the remains of an engineer.

His body was found in a shallow grave in Akwukwu-Igbo.

This town is the headquarters of Oshimili North Local Government Area.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the discovery followed the arrest of two suspects.

They allegedly confessed to the crime.

The late engineer, Chigozie Udalu, had been contracted to construct offices.

He was working in Akwukwu-Igbo before his murder.

His killers buried him in a concealed location.

The incident occurred in December 2024.

Details only emerged after police arrested the suspects.

A community source revealed that two suspects were involved.

They were identified as Tiv youths from Benue State.

They allegedly took the engineer’s life.

They disposed of his remains on a farm.

“Two Tiv boys from Benue State were arrested,” the source said.

“They buried the engineer’s body in a shallow grave.”

The Delta State Police Command confirmed the crime.

The police spokesperson, Edafe Bright, provided an update.

He assured that an investigation was ongoing.

He said officers were working to apprehend others involved.

“We are aware of the incident,” Bright stated.

“Our officers are actively investigating the case.”

“Any remaining suspects will be arrested soon.”

On Wednesday, police recovered the victim’s remains.

The operation was carried out with the Delta State government.

A police source shared details about the case.

The arrested suspects admitted to attacking the engineer.

They accused him of owing them money.

They also claimed he verbally abused them.

Further investigation revealed more motives.

The suspects had planned to steal cement.

They believed the engineer was a threat.

They first attempted to harm him on December 10, 2024.

They wanted to strike him with a wooden plank.

However, they feared he was too strong.

They thought he might resist their attack.

On December 11, 2024, they carried out their plan.

They strangled him with a rope.

They attacked him from behind.

After ensuring he was dead, they buried his body.

They concealed him in a shallow grave.

After committing the crime, they returned to work.

They also stole the engineer’s phone.

They attempted to withdraw money from his bank account.

They used his mobile banking application.

However, they were unsuccessful in their attempts.

The case took another turn.

The landlord of the construction site faced accusations.

People suspected him of involvement in money rituals.

To clear his name, he took an oath.

This was done in the presence of the victim’s family.

The landlord later recounted his ordeal.

He nearly abandoned the case.

He faced difficulties with the State Criminal Investigation Department.

This was in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

A police officer advised him.

He was told to report the case in Ekpan.

He met the Divisional Police Officer there.

The officer assured him of progress.

He promised the truth would emerge within 30 days.

Upon reporting in Ekpan, the DPO took action.

He assembled his team for the investigation.

They used advanced investigative techniques.

Their efforts led to the arrest of two suspects.

One suspect confessed to the burial location.

Additionally, another young man was arrested.

He had threatened the victim openly.

This occurred in the presence of the landlord.

The police transferred him to the SCID.

Four people have been arrested so far.

Two are considered the principal suspects.

A manhunt is ongoing for others.

The police are determined to bring them to justice.

The murder of Chigozie Udalu shocked the community.

Residents are demanding swift justice.

The police have assured the public.

They are working hard on the case.

They will ensure all suspects face the law.
