(DDM) – Nigerian entertainer and activist Charly Boy, also known as Area Fada, has issued a stern warning to politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that the era of impunity in electoral malpractice must end.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on 90MinutesAfrica with Rudolf Okonkwo, the septuagenarian activist declared that the defining slogan for the polls will be “rig and die.”
Born Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, Charly Boy became a national figure in the 1980s with his controversial yet influential showbiz persona, and has since evolved into an unyielding voice for justice, resistance, and political change.
He told DDM that Nigeria is heading for a decisive political showdown in 2027, stressing that any politician planning to subvert the people’s will should be prepared for the consequences.
According to him, 2027 will mark a tipping point where Nigerians will choose between continuing under bad governance or sparking a revolution to reclaim the nation.
“The 2027 election will be a defining moment for Nigeria,” he stated.
“Anybody that plans to rig should be ready to die. It is rig and die. What is coming by 2026 will make Nigerians decide whether to continue in this manner or to cause a revolution to happen in this country.”
Reacting to the Lagos State Government’s decision to rename “Charly Boy Bus Stop” in Bariga, he dismissed the move as “outright silly and a bloody distraction.”
He said his priority is rescuing millions of Nigerians who go to bed hungry each night, unable to afford a decent meal.
Charly Boy stressed that the only real solution to Nigeria’s governance crisis is a credible electoral process where votes truly count.
He warned that without electoral integrity, the cycle of poor leadership will continue to cripple the country.
“I see 2027 as rig and die. Enough is enough. We cannot continue to have the worst of us leading the best of us.
It is abnormal to let this kind of system continue. This is bound to explode. We have nothing to lose,” he said.
Turning to the plight of Sahara Reporters Publisher Omoyele Sowore, who recently faced arrest by the Nigerian Police, Charly Boy commended his resilience and courage in challenging bad governance.
He urged more young Nigerians to join the struggle to transform the country, warning that speaking truth to power will always attract state pushback.
“It is not easy to speak truth to power. We need a lot more people like him in Nigeria,” he added.
