ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Nigerian Senate has expressed serious concern over the rising wave of insecurity in Kwara North Senatorial District, following a series of reported attacks and abductions in communities across the region.

Lawmakers, during deliberations in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, described the situation as alarming and urged urgent intervention by security agencies to halt the worsening trend of violence affecting rural communities in the area.

The Senate specifically called on the Federal Government and relevant security institutions to intensify operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in Kwara North, where residents have reportedly continued to face repeated incidents of kidnapping, armed attacks, and displacement.

The concerns were raised under the oversight of the National Assembly, where senators highlighted the humanitarian and security implications of the ongoing crisis. They noted that persistent insecurity in the region has disrupted farming activities, education, and general socio-economic life, leaving many communities vulnerable.

The upper chamber emphasized the need for a coordinated security response involving the Nigeria Police Force, the military, and other security agencies to ensure the safe return of abducted persons and the protection of rural populations.

Lawmakers also urged the Federal Government to deploy additional security personnel and improve intelligence-gathering mechanisms to address the root causes of the insecurity. They stressed that reactive responses alone would not be sufficient to resolve the growing threat in the region.

Several senators warned that continued attacks in Kwara North could further destabilize surrounding areas and worsen humanitarian conditions if urgent steps are not taken. They called for sustained surveillance and community-based security strategies to complement federal efforts.

Community leaders in affected areas have repeatedly raised alarm over the frequency of attacks, with many residents reportedly forced to abandon their homes or limit movement due to fear of violence. The situation has also impacted agricultural productivity, a key economic activity in the region.

Security analysts note that Kwara North, like several rural parts of Nigeria, faces challenges linked to banditry and kidnapping networks that operate across state boundaries. They emphasize the importance of inter-agency coordination and regional cooperation in tackling such threats effectively.

The Senate reaffirmed its commitment to supporting any legislative or policy measures aimed at strengthening national security and ensuring the protection of citizens across all parts of the country.

As discussions continue, lawmakers have urged swift action from security authorities to prevent further deterioration of the situation and restore confidence among residents of Kwara North Senatorial District.
