President Bola Tinubu has instructed the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to embark on a nationwide campaign to educate Nigerians on the dangers of scooping fuel from fallen tankers and the environmental risks associated with such practices.

This directive follows the tragic fuel tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State, which claimed over 80 lives and left several others critically injured on Saturday.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered In a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the devastating incident, extending his condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Niger State.

The President also assured that comprehensive medical care would be provided to those injured in the explosion.

“The President has ordered security and road safety agencies to adopt preventive measures to avoid similar disasters in the future,” the statement read.

Tinubu underscored the need for Nigerians to exercise extreme caution around accident sites, particularly those involving fuel-laden tankers, due to their highly flammable nature.

President Tinubu emphasized that the nationwide campaign by the NOA would aim to educate citizens on the grave dangers of scooping fuel from tanker spillages.

The campaign will also highlight the environmental hazards such actions pose to communities.

“This tragic event underscores the urgent need to raise public awareness,

” Tinubu said, stressing the importance of protecting lives and preserving the environment through informed choices.

The explosion at Dikko Junction has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations and improved tanker transportation standards.

President Tinubu’s directive seeks to address these issues by combining preventive measures with public enlightenment.

He further urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and avoid engaging in dangerous practices around accident scenes.

The Niger tanker explosion serves as a tragic reminder of the risks associated with fuel scooping.

With Tinubu’s directive, the NOA is expected to mobilize resources for an extensive public awareness drive, ensuring that Nigerians are informed about the risks and the need for caution.
